Out-of-Pocket Racing consists of Matthew and Andrea Durkee, and anyone else we can drag to the race track. We race a Formula Vee with the SCCA organization.
SCCA is an acronym for the "Sports Car Club of America".
This organization sanctions both professional and amateur racing venues, and we exist among the amateur ranks.
Out-of-Pocket Racing is funded (as it's name implies) from our own household budget and by my wife's good graces.
Formula Vee Class
Formula Vee or as it is also known, Formula Volkswagen is a class of cars that has been around since the 60's. It is a class of open wheel, single cockpit racecars with 1.2 liter Volkswagen motors. The comment has been made that when a V.W. bug turns racecar it does not become "Herbie" but rather one of these. We use the bug motors (massaged to 2X stock hp) bug transmissions, bug wheels and many more items that are found on stock beetles. Formula Vee may be the most affordable form of open wheel racing there is. With new cars selling for 20k and many used cars to be had for around 6k you really can find yourself on the track with a working mans budget.
